One morning our third grade teacher entered the class to show us a
newspaper article she'd clipped about a calf that was born with a
cyclopic eye in a small town in Mississippi. I was fascinated with
the story of how the calf only lived a few hours after birth because
it didn't have nostrils or upper teeth and was unsettled by how the
black cyclopic eye seemed to be staring at you where ever you stood
in the class room.
My teacher noticing the intent interest I had in the calf, made a
personal trip to the Sheriff's office to see the head which had been
mounted and asked the newspaper for the original photograph which
had been used in the article and gave it to me. It's been my prized
possession for years and I had it mounted to keep it from falling
apart. If you examine it closely, you can see the creases and tears
in the original photo from before I mounted it on foam board.
The newspaper article was mislaid over the years and I wish I knew
which Mississippi town this was, if you have seen the article and
have that information, please pass it on to me. The calf was born
around the 1960's.
